My name is Venice. I am an artist from Letchworth Garden City. I have wanted to do the Children’s Book Illustration MA for a long time and have enjoyed this creative and often intense period of experimenting and developing my work. In the past I worked as an illustrator and book designer before going on to work in schools and galleries. After many years away from making books, it has been exciting to create characters and begin to develop ideas again.

Although my work features many cats, I love drawing all animals, as well as objects, landscapes, and architecture. My ideas begin as observational drawings, and somewhere they meet with my imagination. I paint with thin layers of watercolour and gouache, and like to add patterns, textures, and hand lettering. I’ve discovered I like working with charcoal too, it can be strong and energetic yet make soft and expressive drawings.
