Rachel wolf (she/her)

Hi, I’m Rachel, an illustrator and artist living by the sea in Kent. I’m very influenced by my surroundings and most of my ideas start with observational drawing in my sketchbook. I find it’s where I can really play and experiment with mark making, with no pressure. I take that playfulness into my illustration work and aim to create painterly atmospheric worlds that give my characters a sense of place.

I come from a fine art background, which combined with teaching children with literacy difficulties ignited a passion for storytelling and led me to the MA. Within my work I’m exploring fairy tale retellings and the importance of belonging and connection to ourselves and the world around us.

When I’m not creating art I’m looking after four feisty hens and going on blustery walks along the coast.

Wolf in the city

This is the story of Wolf, the only statue in an old square. Wolf has a longing for a grander home amongst the popular statues in the city centre centre, surely that’s where he belongs. But is it? Wolf finds out.

This is a story about Love, belonging and discovering that the grass isn’t always greener.

ida and the perfect dance

This is the story of Ida, who practiced until her dance moves were perfect. Now it was time to find the perfect dance partner and Ida knows exactly what she wants, but it isn’t as easy as she thinks.

the worn out shoes

This retelling of the 12 Dancing Princesses is born out of my love of fairy tales. I’m excited about creating the different worlds within the story and to explore drawing dance. This is also a story (unlike the original) in which the princesses have agency over their future.
