Olya Mitchell (she/her)

Olya Mitchell is a Russian illustrator based in London.

Before Olya fell in love with illustration, she had a background in architecture and interior design. She treasures everyday memories and the people she meets along the way, this brings a slice of life to her artwork.

Olya loves drawing from life as well as playing with colour, texture and shapes. Her favourite medium is pastels in all shapes and sizes. She loves crayons, coloured pencils and gouache as well. But over the last few months Olya has had a breakthrough with printmaking - It's been amazing to play with all the potential of screen printing that lets her view her artwork from a different perspective.

Always somewhere between London and Cambridge, Olya constantly tries to find new sources of inspiration in music, cinematography, and vintage illustration. This MA has given her a new sense of confidence in her art and the tools she needs to keep moving forward.

Dreams and Whiskers

This work was inspired by everyday life with my cats, exploring themes of curiosity, sadness and mutual comforting. The materials I used were soft pastels, oil pastels and coloured pencils. This project was shortlisted for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair Illustrators Exhibition.

Mika’s secret

A project inspired by themes such as secrecy and fear of judgement. Materials used include soft pastels, oil pastels, coloured pencils, and crayons.

Is this the Right Way?

A concertina book unravelling an endless journey with joyful characters carrying trinkets. For this project I used the technique of screen printing.
