Niamh Shaw (she/her)

Hello! I’m Niamh Shaw, an illustrator from West Linton, near Edinburgh in Scotland. My love of being active in the “Great Outdoors”, especially in the mountains and by the sea, is a major source of inspiration in my work. I love to try to capture a sense of movement and space in the images I create, and also share some of the fun in being out in the uplands or enjoying the coast!
I’m also fascinated by other cultures and mythology and in particular I enjoy Scottish and Irish – Celtic - tales, myths and legends as well as First Nation stories and art from North West Canada.
Over the past year, I have particularly enjoyed experimenting with printing techniques, as I love the physical processes and playing with mark making, as well as experimenting with Letterpress text in a pictorial way. Furthermore, I also find that keeping the creative process simple, even by just using pencil and paint, also helps me evolve and create the images I observe or imagine. I hope others will enjoy my work as I develop my practice further!
