Laura Poste (she/her)
Hello, I’m Laura. I’m an illustrator and writer living in County Durham with my partner and two children. I trained as a musician and music teacher, but I have always loved drawing, and when my children were very young I fell in love with picture books and illustration. This led me to study Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art.
I love creating lively characters in fun, busy scenes using mixed media. The course has given me a passion for observational drawing, and I enjoy developing my observational sketches into illustrations and stories. For example, my project ‘My Town’ is inspired by Seaton Carew in Hartlepool, a nearby seaside town and a great drawing spot. I’m lucky to live in a part of the world where the landscape is so diverse, there’s always something exciting to draw: the sea, industry, hills, cities and beautiful countryside… but a cheeky seagull usually finds its way into my sketchbook somewhere.
