Jie Lian (she/her)
Hello, I'm Jie Lian, hailing from Hulunbuir, one of the world's four majestic grasslands. My storytelling revolves around life's nuances – be it the vast expanse of the blue sky, the wonders of nature's creatures, human customs, or the richness of culinary experiences. I draw inspiration from the resilience, suffering, and kindness embedded in the small wonders of existence.
My art is deeply influenced by the cold climate of my hometown, the bold spirit of the Mongolian people, and the endless steppe. Engaging in paper cutting, collage, set construction, and character design for animations has become integral to my creative process. Through these practices, I strive to breathe life into the mood of the countryside and its inhabitants. This year, my creative journey led me to explore stop-motion animation, crafting short films where mice and sets come to life through a diverse mix of materials.

What color is your tail?
Against the backdrop of my dog's life, I employ a mixed-material collage technique to narrate enchanting tales of farm-dwelling animals. Through this artistic journey, my aim is to convey the powerful message of embracing authenticity and disregarding external opinions. In the vibrant stories of farm life, I explore the resilience, uniqueness, and unapologetic individuality of each creature.
Mr. Groundhog’s House
I crafted a miniature model inspired by Mr. Groundhog’s house from the old house in my hometown. My passion for unique hand-made works led me to use wood for furniture, clay and acrylic for various parts, and local birch bark as a backdrop. The model features local specialties, portraying not just Mr. Groundhog’s house, but also my ideal life.
The Sheep and Dog's Extraordinary Adventures
Inspired by my dog and farm life, I explore diverse materials, delving into stop-motion animation through cut-paper collage. Beyond traditional illustration, I aim to convey vibrant stories. This creative venture allows me to breathe life into narratives, capturing the essence of my hometown's charm and the playful spirit of my canine companion.
