HELENA STRIDE (she/her)

My work is inspired by the natural world and I try to capture both the form and personality of animals and especially birds which I am fascinated by.

After a career in Museum Education I have enjoyed immersing myself in a world of practical art with this MA. Observational drawing has become the foundation for my work whether drawing the swans preening in my local park to trying to capture the essence of more exotic creatures at the zoo or using film online. I have used a variety of media from gouache, acrylic inks and pastels to discovering that I enjoy cutting into paper and translating form and pattern into collage. The rich biodiversity of the world is under threat, even in the UK, and I would love to create books celebrating and generating a love of the natural world and a desire to protect it."
