Doyoon Lee (she/her)

Hello, I am Doyoon Lee from South Korea.
Before I came to Cambridge I studied English Literature and Arabic Studies. I came to this school because I wanted to challenge myself and do creative things. Also I was interested in making picturebooks, which not only include drawing illustrations but also creating stories.

I usually get inspirations from certain places and create my artwork by using observational drawings. For my last projects I used places like magic schools and launderettes to create a story of what I would feel and experience if I were a child through observation and imagination. In particular, Cambridge was a good place to observe classic and remarkable school buildings as it was a historic university-city.
I like to work by mixing diverse materials and I am mainly interested in using oil pastels, paper collage and pattern making.

Magic Art School

Magic Art School is a picture book about a boy attending a magic summer school. He doesn’t know what to do during his time here, but luckily there are friends to help him explore the school as well as his passion along the way!

At the launderette

At the launderette is a picture book about a bored child who explores an imaginary world he created while dosing off at a local launderette.
