CAROL LAW (she/her)
Hello, I'm Carol from Cambridgeshire, UK. I am drawn to the extraordinariness of ordinary life, inspired by acts of kindness, quiet humour and stories that evoke a sense of emotion. I'm most natural drawing domestic scenes, inspired by true stories and direct observations.
I work mainly in graphite pencil for black and white artwork and gouache for colour.
Having previously spent more than 20 years in teaching and working in the heritage sector, a love and inquisitiveness of social history often finds a way into my work. And many moons ago, I was a book designer for a children's publisher - so it feels like I have come full circle, entering again the world of children's books! What I love about illustrating books is creating worlds for our characters to live in and sneaking in moments with personal meaning, wherever possible, in the sidelines. I hope these moments resonate with the reader and they too find personal meaning.
Throughout this MA I have valued learning to draw, taking risks, and being more reflective in my work practice - a great foundation for continuing learning and developing.
